Possum and Tick

Possum had a tick in his hair yesterday morning. We noticed straight away, it was one of those big paralysis ticks. It was a bit of a kafuffel (he screams at the sight of a pair of tweezers) but we got it out all right. It can't have been in there for long, maybe half an hour or so. Still, his head was swollen, and he was feeling a bit sick. I offered to keep him at home for a day of rest, but he preferred to go and play with his friends at preschool. So we popped some cream on, and off he went to have a fun day.

But then, this is what he looked like this morning:

We took him off to the doctor, who prescribed more anti-histamine and some oral steroid-like medicine (whatever that means). He was quite concerned that Possum was running a fever, and was having difficulties moving his eyeball - fearing infection, I guess.
But I'm pleased to be able to report that the swelling had gone down by this evening, and he managed to open his eye half way and turn his eyeball again like normal.
Al's well that ends well.
